Monopoly Money

heavenly money  The currency of Heaven is the power of God.  When we agree with “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven” we are agreeing to the exchange of Heavenly currency.  That is what Jesus used while on Earth.  That is what we get to use as His children.  That is our inheritance here and now and today.  The power of God manifest as love and hope and joy and peace and rightness is our Heavenly money.  God gave it to us.  He has a big fat wallet full of it.  He has banks upon banks full of His currency.  He gladly gives out tons of this stuff through us by Him in us.  It is all about Jesus.  It has always been about Jesus.  Jesus in us is our opportunity to participate in this ancient currency exchange.  The word became flesh.  The creator became the created.  His union with us makes us His bankers on Earth.  There is plenty to go around.  But…

I hate the “buts.”  The devil has been using them from the very beginning.  In the garden the devil convinced us that God was holding out.  The original sin wasn’t the insertion of juicy fruit into the gaping tooth rimmed pie hole of man.  It was believing that God was holding out.  Eve believed that there was something that God was not sharing with us.  Eve believed that the serpent must know something she didn’t know.  She agreed that there was a “portion” that we weren’t given to enjoy.  What a lie!  Still she fell for it.  The juice of the fruit sealed the deal.  We made a conscious decision to believe the devil instead of God.  We made a conscious decision to agree with “lack” instead of plenty.  We had everything.  Nothing was held back.

monopoly money  In this fallen condition the currency of man is based on performance.  We believe (and the world confirms it) that if we “do something right” we should “get something right.”  We believe that a system of performance and reward is the accepted system.  The devil uses this fallen understanding to corrupt our relationship with God.  We are endlessly trying to make ourselves “worthy” of man’s and God’s attention.  We are trying to accumulate piles and piles of self-worth based on performance.  These “works” were never intended as a currency system of Heaven.  It is just Monopoly money.  The universe responds to God’s currency.  Our monopoly money is just worthless paper.  The Bible calls it dung.

The enemy has us so deceived into believing it is about our performance.  Religion has so distorted our worth that we are told we are the piles of dung and we need to do more “works” to change our status.  Religion has convinced us that increasing our piles of monopoly money is the key to entering the pearly gates.  God’s plan is the opposite.

Don’t believe me?  OK, for the unconvinced let me show you something that might just knock you down.  Do you know the origin of the word translated as “sin” in the Bible?  I didn’t until recently.  I had been taught that is was our “moral failure” or “our falling short” or “missing the mark” or a myriad of other self-based performance evaluation metrics.  Religion has so distorted this word to get a fear-based response.  It is an attempt by the devil to keep us hiding in the bushes instead of engaging in a Kingdom system.  Here is the word in context:

2 Cor 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (ESV)

Here is the word in the Greek: hamartian.  It comes from two other Greek words:

hamartía (a feminine noun derived from 1 /A “not” and 3313 /méros, “a part, share of”) – properly, no-share (“no part of”)

Sin isn’t a failure of moral absolutes.  Sin is anything we do operating from a “lack of” or having “no share of” or “no part of.”  It is any action on our part that denies God’s provision.  Can you see it?

Think back to the garden.  The devil convinced Eve that she “lacked” or “had no share of” or “had no part in” something that the serpent said God was holding back.  Her “sin” was an action based on believing this lie by the devil.  This is our same issue today.

God isn’t testing us and conditioning us and training us (like animals) to have a conditioned response in adversity.  He isn’t asking us to “work up” the right moral absolutes when things get tough.  He isn’t asking us to produce more dung for the dung heap.  He isn’t asking us to use our worthless Monopoly money.  Instead He is giving us access to His bank.  When adversity comes we have the cash to change the circumstance.  We have the currency of Heaven to make a difference.  Jesus fed a crowd with a boy’s lunch.  That is the currency of Heaven at work.

Check out these verses with a new understanding of “sin.”

1 John 3:5 You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 6 No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. 8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. (ESV)

If you believe that your purpose in this life is to live a morally perfect, law conscious, zero defect, “sinless” life then you are really doomed by those verses.  If however to see that the “sin” is working out of “no part of” or “out of your effort” instead of God’s power then you have limitless, endless, infinite hope!  Why?  See what these verses actually say with a renewed mind:

5.  Jesus took away any debt and never operated with a debtors mentality, ever!

6.  When I am agreeing with His resources I operate out of His resources which are endless and powerful to change the universe.  I know Him and His goodness and His love and His provision so I can’t agree with the enemy that “stuff just happens” or “God allows bad stuff” or any of that other garbage that leads to dung production.

7.  I am righteous because I am His righteousness so I get to live like a righteous one who has a right relationship with the provider of Kingdom currency.  No more lack here.

8.  I will never agree to operate out of lack again.  I will never agree with the lies that say
“it is my lot in life” or “God gave me this to teach me a lesson” or any other devil junk like that.  “Watch out devil, here I come!  I’ve got a wad of Heavenly money in my pocket.  You are in big trouble.”

Put away your Monopoly money.  It is worthless.  Take out an account with the bank of Heaven.  God has plenty.  Thy Holy Spirit can’t wait to show you how and where to use it.  Don’t live out of lack.  Don’t agree with the enemy that God is holding out on you.  Don’t agree with the enemy that God is waiting for you to produce something that you aren’t capable of producing.  Your effort actually makes worthless currency.  Christ in you the Hope of glory.  That is my kind of money!

Yay God!
