1 Corinthians 1:7 That you are not [consciously] falling behind or lacking in any special spiritual endowment or Christian grace [the reception of which is due to the power of divine grace operating in your souls by the Holy Spirit], while you wait and watch [constantly living in hope] for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and [His] being made visible to all.
8 And He will establish you to the end [keep you steadfast, give you strength, and guarantee your vindication; He will be your warrant against all accusation or indictment so that you will be] guiltless and irreproachable in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).
9 God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to His promise, and He can be depended on); by Him you were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (AMP)
I want Jesus. I want all of Jesus. I want to be consumed by His person. He is the answer. He is all the answers. He is. I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want Him. He is our everything, He is our all.
I just want to have a little talk with Him. I want to come to the garden and meet Him. How I trust Him, how he proves it over and over. He is my everything, He is my all. We sing those songs. We say the words but do we believe them?
Not everyone who confesses to “know Jesus” is in the pursuit. I am finding that some are actually offended by the pursuit. Some say they want Him but really want community instead. Some say they want a kingdom culture but the thought of being consumed by Him makes them flee. I just don’t get it. The words “that isn’t real” or “we are just stupid sheep” or “that is unbalanced” or “who do you think you are” keep ringing in my ears. Why? Why not Him? I just don’t get it.
Imagine if you had deadly cancer eating your body and the pain was unbearable. You have just days to live. Your affairs are not in order. Your family has deserted you. It really is that bad. Now someone walks in and offers you a pill. This one is the cure. It is proven. There are no side effects. It is free. How could you not take it? Who am I kidding. Jesus is that cure. Not only is He the cure, He brings reconciliation. He brings wisdom and provision for your affairs. He delivers you from the sickness and all the stuff that went with it. He changes the entire situation. He is the answer. He said so. That is called good news. That is called salvation. Why would people turn Him down?
Imagine if you went to the greatest amusement park in the universe. You of course are a roller coaster junkie. This park is special. There is a zero chance of malfunction or failure. There is no way you could have an accident or be injured. Now imagine not riding a single ride. How crazy is that? That is rejecting Jesus. It is that good. He is that good. He is that safe. He is that much fun.
Imagine walking down an alley and finding a young girl being attacked by a gang of very rough-looking men. Imagine they are the group that are known to have captured and sold women into slavery. Imagine you pull out this future weapon. It is non-lethal but it works, every time. When you use it the perpetrators are judged, tried and convicted in an instant. There is zero chance of punishing the wrong guy and a 100% chance the bad guys go to jail. There are no loopholes or bail opportunities. That is what Jesus does. That is what you do with Him. That is what it means to defeat the works of the devil. That is what it looks like when you follow Him into combat. Who wouldn’t want that?
I want to be so saturated with Him so that my identity apart from Him is zero and my identity in Him is infinity. I want there to be zero separation between us. Where He begins and I end are the same. Where we are, there is one. I want to be translated as Enoch. I want to be radiating as Moses. I will pursue until I have clothes that are white as lightning. Even then there is more. I want people to see Jesus when they see me. It isn’t possible for me. It is possible for God.
He says if we knock He will answer. If we ask He will give. If we seek we will find. I want to be so consumed by Him that I am no more. Why doesn’t everyone want that? I just don’t get it.
What I am describing is unavoidable. Listen, if you are in this for a ticket to heaven, what do you think heaven will look like? It will be exactly what I have described. Why would you put off for tomorrow what can make a difference for everyone today?
This is the last of the series about second coming deferments. We talked about how God connects the dots with His epiphaneia appearance. We talked about how He can be seen in our circumstance by His phaneroó revelations. We talked about how His parousia presence dissolves all kinds of worldly philosophies and wrong doctrines. This last “revelation” is the revelation of Him, all of Him.
The Greek word is apokalupsis: (“revelation, unveiling”) is principally used of the revelation of Jesus Christ (the Word), especially a particular (spiritual) manifestation of Christ (His will) previously unknown to the extent (because “veiled, covered”).
This is the all of Him. The root is the same word as used here:
Matt 16:17 And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal [this] to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18″I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. (NAS)
It isn’t something we put off until we are dead. He wants to reveal Himself to us NOW in this life. He is our hope. Our hope is found in Him. He seals it with His Holy Spirit.
Rom 5:5 Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us. (AMP)
Rom 15:13 Oh! May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope! (The Message)
So I don’t get it. Why isn’t everyone pursuing Him with all their might? I don’t get it. But then again I didn’t get it before. I do know this now. I can’t give it to you. A natural man can’t impart a supernatural revelation. I can only make you curious. I can expose a lie. The Holy Spirit will do the convincing.
If you know Jesus and are born again then you have that spark. You had it when you first met Him. Ask yourself “what happened.” What disappointment changed your mind? What experience made a difference? What teaching lead you astray? Dump it all. Give it to Jesus. He will let you catch Him. He will bring you a Eureka! He will appear in your circumstance. He will crush the lies of empty philosophy and religion. He will reveal Himself to you over and over again. Run fast. Trust more. All He wants is you! Stop waiting. Stop putting off for tomorrow what is yours today. You can get Him. There He is, right there…
