Sometimes I wonder if we understand the before and after. I wish I could go back in time and see the events unfold. Knowing what we think we know about some historic event, what is reality and what is revision?
I think back to some Star Trek episode where planet X is doomed. There is an impending super Nova and an entire race of beings is about to be wiped out. Then comes the Star Ship Enterprise to the rescue. They are compelled to save the race but absolutely must not violate the Prime Directive. You see the Federation is way more advanced than the people on planet X and the idea of them knowing about a superior race, or strangers from outer space would really mess them up. They would be doomed again but this time because they were exposed to something ahead of their time. No worries though because the planet is saved by the brilliance of Mr Spock, the ingenuity of Mr Scott, the passion of CAPT Kirk and the witty banter of Bones. The super Nova is avoided by the timely use of anti-matter but at the risk of losing the whole universe in the process. Sounds like pretty much every episode, right?
Now here we are back on Earth and these stories by these fictional adventurers sometimes have a greater sense of reality than…lets say…what is in the Bible. I think it is funny (strange) that we can let our imaginations really go crazy with unbounded excitement for a TV show but start to rationalize all sorts of things when it comes to the mighty works of God. Sometimes I wonder if we believe God has some Prime Directive of His own? How about you?
When we begin to believe our perceived reality is more real than a God reality, we have stepped into the enemy’s camp. Check out these verses:
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
Romans 8:24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?
When Jesus came to this Earth things changed, really changed. Sometimes we look at Jesus as the get well program for a gone-bad program. Wrong. He is the pivotal moment in all time. The before and after are not the same. It is not the same metaphorically, theologically and actually!! For example when Jesus was baptized and the Heavens opened it was no “soft angles singing quietly in the background” moment. The original language uses the words that could mean rent, pulled apart violently, etc. It is the same word used for the rocks splitting when Jesus gave up His spirit. It is the same word used for when the vail in the Temple was torn from top to bottom. It is the same concept that Isaiah prayed for in 64:1. It was no small event. It was a world-changing, planet saving, supernaturally powered, Spirit remaining, super-Nova event. History has played it down. Why?
Revision. The enemy doesn’t want us to see the significance of this world, universe, time, space, final frontier, changing event. He wants us to just stay stuck in the before instead of living in the after. I can’t imagine how bad it was before the Spirit was poured out on all mankind. I can’t imagine what it was before the Heavens were opened and remained open. This world must have been a very dark place indeed. The enemy wants us to base our reality on the before because the focus is on us instead of on Jesus under the law. For those that want Grace-and, or Grace-but, or “give me some law” are actually embracing the before when the disaster-averting entrance of Heaven into our reality has changed everything forever. I believe that “we get to see what we believe” in instead of “we get to believe in what we see.” The enemy is a master at keeping our Star Ship computer stuck in old thinking instead of moving into the new thinking. Why? We don’t see the new but live in the old. Jesus changed everything, actually, practically, positionally, exceptionally… We need to open our eyes to seeing that. We get to walk this planet as He did not as Moses did. Think about that for a second. Are you seeing the Star Ship Enterprise just there in the shadows?
Yay God!! Thank You Jesus!
